Glitch Art and Circuit Bending

Glitch Art

Glitch is interrupted pixels which are triggered by accident which is a blast of pixelated hallucinatory jagged lines. It’s usually seen in pictures, videos and video games where the image gets fractured by a digital bug, this causes the pixels in the image to be interrupted which causes the glitch lines to appear.

So what causes glitches?

Glitches are caused if the data is interrupted or the device is too weak to process the large amount of data.

Over the years the glitch has become recognised and has been used as art, glitch art has been used as art in films and images to give it that scary affect to make the viewer’s think that there is something wrong.

Glitch has become so well-known some image editing software’s include filters for affects and glitch is an upcoming affect commonly used in horror films to make the audience tensed.

Circuit Bending

Circuit bending is form of modification. The name circuit bending is pretty self explanatory where an inventor would get an electronic toys, gadgets or a musical instrument where the surgery would commence for modifications could be done to be improved or as most would say “to fit their needs”.

Circuit bending involves re-opening the electronic device where the circuit the board and wires are exposed, once open the bending can start, external parts can also be added on too e.g. a mini PC fan can be attached on to the battery to keep the device cool.

In figure 2 is another example of circuit bending. As you see the toy has been modified with switches.
